Marshalltown Boys Basketball Youth League (MBBYB) has proudly hosted boys' basketball tournaments in Marshalltown, Iowa, for the past 12 years. We offer competition for grades 3rd through 8th, utilizing many of Marshalltown’s excellent facilities. Our events are known for being well-organized and punctual, providing a top-notch experience for both athletes and spectators. Each season, we run 12 to 18 events, and we’re sold out 95% of the time.
Brynjar Brynjarsson, our director, is currently an assistant coach at Marshalltown High School and a former head coach at Marshalltown Community College. With 25 years of coaching experience, including 18 years at the collegiate level, Brynjar began his career as a video coordinator at Iowa State under Larry Eustachy in 1999, where he was part of back-to-back Big 12 championships. After one year as an assistant at MCC, he spent three years at the NCAA Division 1 level at the University of Idaho before returning to MCC as head coach for 14 years. He now serves as an assistant coach at MHS.

Game Rules for All Divisions:
- Only the head coach may stand during live play.
- Technical fouls result in the opposing team shooting 2 free throws and gaining possession of the ball.
- Any flagrant foul will result in the offending player sitting out the rest of the game.
- Games consist of two 18-minute halves.
- All games start 3 minutes after the previous game finishes.
- If a court falls behind by more than 10 minutes, games will shift to two 17-minute halves with a 1-minute halftime until the schedule is back on track.
- The clock stops during the last minute of the second half unless a team is leading by 15 points or more.
- Bonus free throws (1-and-1) begin on the 7th team foul, and teams shoot 2 free throws on the 10th team foul.
- 3-point shots count as 3 points.
- Each team is allotted 3 timeouts per game (30 seconds each).
- Overtime lasts 1 minute with a stopped clock; if the game is still tied, sudden death will determine the winner.
- If a team is leading by 20 points or more with 2 minutes remaining, the game will end.
